Two Dead and Several Injured in Police Chase in Fontana

Fontana, California – Two individuals lost their lives and multiple individuals were seriously injured, including law enforcement officers, following a brief but intense police chase in Fontana.

The tragic sequence of events unfolded around 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, near the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Cypress Avenue, as reported by the Fontana Police Department.

Officers attempted to stop a Nissan Sentra vehicle due to traffic violations. However, the driver refused to stop and instead chose to accelerate, initiating a pursuit.

The situation escalated rapidly, with the fleeing vehicle reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Despite the short duration of the chase, which lasted only about 30 seconds, the danger escalated with each passing moment.

The pursuit came to a tragic end when the driver of the Nissan lost control of the vehicle and collided violently with another police car that had joined the pursuit. As a result of the impact, both vehicles were severely damaged.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene. Unfortunately, two individuals traveling in the Nissan lost their lives on the spot. Additionally, two other individuals were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, as confirmed by the Fontana Police Department.

The accident also left two police officers seriously injured, who were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.

The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team has taken responsibility for investigating this tragic accident that has shaken the community. So far, none of the victims have been identified.
