Cupertino, California – Over the weekend in Cupertino, four minors were injured, two of them seriously, in a DUI crash, authorities reported.
The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday near Foothill and Stevens Creek boulevards, according to Brooks Jarosz, spokesperson for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, in an official statement.
A silver Mazda truck collided with another vehicle and struck a light pole, leaving four minors, aged 11, 8, 7, and 4, injured on the sidewalk at that time.
“Several 911 calls described a horrific scene that could have been avoided,” Jarosz stated in the official release.
Two of the minors suffered serious injuries, as reported by Jarosz, and were attended to by emergency medical personnel before being transported to local hospitals.
The driver of the Mazda, a 38-year-old man from Cupertino, was arrested and jailed on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, and causing serious bodily injury, as indicated by Jarosz.
The Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting a thorough investigation of the crash.
