Two Dead and One Seriously Injured in Head-On Collision

San Luis Obispo County, California—The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a fatal head-on collision on Tuesday, July 23rd, on Highway 46E, approximately four miles from the San Luis Obispo County line, at the intersection known as Cholame Y.

The accident, which occurred shortly after midnight, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another driver seriously injured.

The identities of the deceased victims have not yet been disclosed, but according to CHP reports, both were traveling in a 2020 Hyundai. The other driver involved, a 59-year-old man from San Diego, was driving a 2005 Ford F350.

According to the CHP, the Hyundai was traveling westbound at approximately 55 MPH behind a tractor-trailer.

In an attempt to pass the truck, the Hyundai collided head-on with the Ford F350, traveling in the opposite direction at an undetermined speed. This maneuver resulted in a devastating head-on crash.

The impact was fatal for the Hyundai’s driver and passenger, who died at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford F350 sustained serious injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Medical Center for medical treatment.

The CHP has indicated that impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in this tragic accident. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact causes of the crash and whether any other circumstances may have contributed to it.
