Oakland, CA – A 6-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being injured in a drunk driving accident in Oakland on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the intersection of Pearmain Street and 105th Avenue. The driver, who was allegedly fleeing from police, was arrested on multiple felony charges, including driving under the influence and causing serious injuries.

The tragedy struck as the young boy, his twin brother, and their stepmother were headed to a grocery store in East Oakland. The driver of a silver Lexus SUV, identified as 35-year-old James Jovan Thomas, ran a stop sign and violently crashed into the family’s vehicle at approximately 6:11 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The boy suffered a fractured skull and severe internal bleeding and remains in critical condition at the hospital. His stepmother also sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. His twin brother is in stable condition.

Just minutes later, Thomas ran another red light and caused the devastating crash. He was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges for:
