The Southern California youth soccer community is in mourning after the deaths of two teenagers and two adults in a car crash on Interstate 15, which authorities believe may have been caused by an illegal street race.
The accident occurred Saturday, when a northbound BMW traveling at high speed veered left, vaulted over the concrete median, and slammed head-on into a southbound Nissan Sentra. After the impact, both vehicles burst into flames.
Victims Who Leave a Lasting Mark on the Community
Among those killed were Mina Sabet and Jacob Labib, two youth soccer players fondly remembered by their families and teammates. The crash also claimed the lives of a man and a woman whose names have not yet been released by authorities.
Family members and youth soccer teams across the region expressed deep sorrow and shock, describing the teenagers as young people full of dreams and passion for the sport.
Possible Cause: Illegal Street Racing
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the BMW is suspected of participating in a high-speed street race before losing control. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the exact causes and identify any potential liable parties.
Rights of Affected Families
In fatal crashes involving reckless driving or illegal street racing, California law allows families to file a wrongful death claim under Code of Civil Procedure §§ 377.60 al código 377.61.
Direct family members may seek compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of future income, the victims would have contributed to their households
- Emotional damages and loss of companionship
- Additional compensation in cases of extremely dangerous conduct, such as illegal racing
These claims provide financial support and send a message of accountability and justice to those who endanger lives through reckless behavior.
