A single-vehicle crash on I-80 left one minor dead and three others seriously injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Crash Details
- The collision occurred Thursday afternoon on westbound I-80 near Highway 174 in Colfax.
- The fatal victim was a minor passenger, whose identity has not yet been released.
- The driver and two other passengers were transported to local hospitals with major injuries.
- Traffic on the westbound side was diverted through Colfax and rejoined the freeway at Placer Hills Road. The roadway reopened around 4 p.m.
In a separate incident further downhill in the Applegate area, a big rig also lost control and partially blocked a lane. CHP noted that wet and slippery roads from recent rainfall may have contributed to both crashes.
