Authorities identify six victims of fatal crashes in San Diego County. They have released the names of six people who lost their lives in recent traffic accidents across the region.
The reports were confirmed by the County Medical Examiner’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Recent Fatalities in the San Diego Area 🚨
Fallbrook:
The most recent crash occurred Thursday night when 38-year-old Alyssha Karup-Joseph of San Diego was ejected from her vehicle after veering off Interstate 15, north of State Route 76.
Her car went down an embankment, and she was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where she died the following day.
Vista:
On Wednesday night, 23-year-old Jad Farner of Oceanside was killed when his motorcycle struck an SUV stopped in the left-turn lane on North Melrose Drive.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Linda Vista:
On October 28, 47-year-old Santos Griego was driving a BMW 850i on Route 163 when he lost control, left the roadway, struck a tree, and the car caught fire.
He was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
Clairemont Mesa:
On October 26, 32-year-old Michael Almedina of San Diego died after his motorcycle collided with a sedan at the intersection of Balboa and Eckstrom Avenue.
La Mesa:
That same day, around 4:30 a.m., 26-year-old Roberto Jiménez Jr. was killed in a hit-and-run on State Route 125. Jiménez was a passenger in a Nissan Sentra that left the roadway and crashed into a parked Mercedes-Benz. The driver fled the scene on foot.
Pala:
Finally, 54-year-old Jesús Contreras of Apple Valley died at the hospital after suffering injuries in a crash weeks earlier on State Route 76, east of Magee Road. His wife, who was traveling with him, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fatal Crash Trends in San Diego County
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), San Diego County has seen a 19% increase in traffic fatalities between 2022 and 2024.
- Speeding and loss of control
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Collisions involving pedestrians and motorcyclists
San Diego also ranks among California’s 10 most dangerous counties for motorcyclists, with over 80 deaths annually from motorcycle collisions.
