Pedestrian Accident in Bakersfield: 68-Year-Old Man Hospitalized

Bakersfield, California – A 68-year-old man faced an unfortunate fate after being hit by a vehicle, resulting in serious injuries and immediate hospitalization. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred around 6:12 p.m.

Raymond Robinson, a resident of Bakersfield, was crossing the eastbound lanes of Olive Drive, specifically east of Victor Street. According to a press release issued by the CHP on Tuesday, Robinson was wearing dark clothing amid dark and rainy weather. This factor, combined with the lack of a marked crosswalk, contributed to the unfortunate collision.

The driver involved in the incident, 42-year-old April Nick, also a resident of Bakersfield, was traveling east in a 2008 Honda at a speed between 35 and 40 mph. Despite her efforts, Nick couldn’t avoid the collision with Robinson, resulting in an impact that left the man severely injured.

Following the incident, Robinson was urgently transported to Kern Medical Center for medical attention. The CHP reported that according to initial investigations, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the accident.

This tragic pedestrian accident in Bakersfield serves as a reminder of the importance of caution when crossing roads, especially in adverse weather conditions. The combination of dark clothing and rainy weather can hinder visibility, even for responsible drivers.

Authorities continue to investigate to fully understand the details of this unfortunate encounter.
