Fresno County, CA – March 25, 2026 | Ayuda California News
A 24-year-old man has been identified after a fatal 3-vehicle crash in Fresno County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred just before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Zediker Avenue and Dinuba Avenue, just south of Parlier.
What Happened
According to CHP’s preliminary investigation:
- A black Hyundai, driven by Nathan Lopez of Reedley, was traveling eastbound.
- The driver failed to stop at a stop sign.
- The vehicle collided with a Nissan pickup truck.
- A third vehicle waiting at the intersection was also struck.
The force of the crash pushed the Hyundai off the roadway and into a nearby orchard.
Lopez was pronounced dead from his injuries.
Authorities have not confirmed whether drugs or alcohol were factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
Failure to Stop at Intersections: A Common Cause of Serious Crashes
Running a stop sign is a major cause of intersection collisions in California.
Under California Vehicle Code § 22450, drivers are required to come to a complete stop at posted stop signs. Failing to do so can lead to severe or fatal crashes, especially when multiple vehicles are involved.
Legal Perspective: Multi-Vehicle Crash Liability
In a 3-vehicle crash, liability can be more complex than it appears.
Investigators typically analyze:
- Right-of-way violations
- Speed and driver behavior
- Positioning of each vehicle
- Potential shared responsibility
California follows a pure comparative negligence system (Li v. Yellow Cab Co.), meaning more than one party can be held responsible, each based on their percentage of fault.
Rights of Victims and Families
When a fatal crash occurs, surviving family members may have the right to file a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure § 377.60 – 377.61.
This may include compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of companionship and guidance
In cases involving injuries, victims may also seek compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages
- Pain and suffering
