Escondido, CA – A tragic Escondido hit-and-run accident early Tuesday morning claimed the life of 58-year-old Miguel Leonides Garcia after he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Broadway. The driver fled the scene, and authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:09 a.m. while Garcia was legally crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. A vehicle, described as a white off-road style SUV with a large spare tire and a red “high lift” jack attached to the back, was turning right onto northbound Broadway when it struck the pedestrian.
The driver of the vehicle immediately fled, heading north on Broadway and then turning east on Lincoln Avenue.
Garcia was rushed to a local hospital but, tragically, was pronounced dead due to his injuries.
