83-Year-Old Man Dies in Highway 101 Accident

San Mateo, California – An 83-year-old man has died after his car veered off Highway 101 in San Mateo. The accident occurred sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to local authorities.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that PG&E workers who were performing maintenance on nearby electrical boxes discovered the accident. The scene of the accident revealed the severity of the impact and the position of the vehicle that had gone off the road.

The driver, behind the wheel of a 2010 white Toyota Corolla, was traveling on a connecting route between eastbound Highway 92 and northbound Highway 101.

For reasons still unknown, the car deviated from its path and broke through a concrete barrier, causing it to fall into a dirt lot owned by Caltrans, located beneath the elevated highway.

The Toyota Corolla landed on its left side, leaving the driver partially ejected from the vehicle. CHP authorities confirmed that the driver, a San Francisco resident, died at the scene of the accident due to the severity of the injuries sustained.

Although the exact causes of the accident are still under investigation, authorities have stated that alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be contributing factors.
