Stanislaus County, California – A fatal accident on Highway 4 in Stanislaus County has claimed the lives of two individuals. The accident, which occurred around 6:40 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024, just west of Dunton Road, has been investigated by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office. The two individuals who lost their lives in this head-on collision have been identified.
Gurjot Kaur, a 21-year-old from Stockton, was driving a Honda sedan traveling eastbound. In an attempt to overtake a slower vehicle ahead of her, Kaur entered a left-hand curve on the highway.
Unfortunately, this reckless maneuver led her to cross over the solid double yellow lines, an illegal and dangerous action.
Reduced visibility due to the curve further complicated the situation. At this critical moment, Kaur’s vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota pickup truck driven by Rudy Mercado, a 51-year-old resident of Copperopolis. The resulting crash was devastating, and sadly, both Kaur and Mercado lost their lives at the scene of the accident.
It is important to remember that road safety is the responsibility of all drivers. Reckless maneuvers, such as attempting to overtake in hazardous or reduced visibility areas, can have fatal consequences. This tragic incident serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of negligent behavior on the roads.
