Bakersfield DUI Crash: Stolen Car Runs Stop Sign, Kills Teen

[East Bakersfield, CA] 15-year-old Jamie Anthony Perez from Bakersfield has been identified as the victim in last week’s fatal crash on Alta Vista Drive. The tragic incident occurred when Perez was riding in a vehicle being driven by 18-year-old Timothy Leal who is suspected to have been under the influence at the time of the accident.

According to reports from the Bakersfield Police Department, Leal was driving a stolen Kia and ran a stop sign, driving directly in the path of a truck. The 80-year-old truck driver could not swerve in time and flipped the vehicle into a house. Fortunately enough, this elderly individual was found to have just minor injuries but unfortunately for Perez, he lost his life in that very crash.

After the crash, Leal got out of the car and ran off. The police later found him a short distance away and say he was showing signs and symptoms of intoxication. He was arrested on charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

This senseless tragedy has left the Perez family and their friends grieving the loss of a young life, with an entire community in shock. No one ever imagines that their loved ones could be taken from them so suddenly and in such a traumatic way. While nothing can ever replace the life that was lost, the family may be entitled to compensation for their loss, including emotional pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills, and funeral expenses.
