A man has been detained by authorities after a devastating collision between two vehicles on California Avenue. The accident resulted in fatalities, with one person killed and another individual severely injured.
On Thursday night, two vehicles collided violently at the intersection of California Street and Chester Avenue. According to the preliminary investigation conducted by authorities, a sedan was traveling northbound on Chester Avenue, while a pickup truck was heading west on California Avenue. Tragically, both vehicles collided in a fatal impact that left devastating consequences.
Upon arriving at the accident scene, emergency teams and the police encountered a heartbreaking sight. Both the driver and the passenger of the sedan suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. They were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. The BPD’s investigation yielded alarming results: the pickup truck driver, identified as 48-year-old Luis Esquivel, a resident of Bakersfield, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Immediate legal actions were taken against Esquivel. He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, manslaughter, driving with a suspended license, and traffic violations.
Esquivel is scheduled to appear in court on August 22nd, where he will be held accountable for his actions and face the legal consequences of his deeds.
