Drunk Driver Causes DUI crash near Santa Rosa Soccer Park

SANTA ROSA, California – A 19-year-old driver, identified as Angel Uribe, was arrested Wednesday after crashing into four parked cars near a youth soccer facility at A Place to Play community park on West Third Street. The reckless crash, which injured one woman, occurred around 4:45 p.m., according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Details of the Incident

Police reported that Uribe, driving a gray Lexus sedan, was recklessly navigating the north parking lot before losing control and colliding with four parked vehicles. The cars were occupied by parents waiting to pick up their children from soccer practice.

One woman sustained minor head and shoulder injuries and was treated on-site by medical personnel. At the time of the crash, approximately 200 people, mostly children and their families, were at the park.

Following the crash, Uribe attempted to flee the scene by running toward a nearby trail. However, bystanders intervened, chasing him down and detaining him until officers arrived.

Investigation and Findings

An investigator from the Santa Rosa PD Traffic Division determined that Uribe was driving west through the parking lot when his Lexus collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe, which then struck a GMC Sierra. The force of the collision caused the Sierra to hit two additional parked vehicles. Uribe’s Lexus continued to crash into other vehicles, deploying the car’s airbags.

Investigators confirmed that Uribe was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He is currently on probation for a prior DUI conviction in 2023 and was under pre-trial supervision for another DUI arrest on August 7, 2024. His probation terms, which included abstaining from alcohol, were in direct violation during this incident.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Uribe was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges, including:

  • DUI collision causing injury
  • DUI collision with a BAC of .08 or higher, causing injury
  • Hit and run collision causing injury
  • Providing false identification to a peace officer
  • Driving on a license suspended for a prior DUI

Due to the severity of the crash and Uribe’s repeated offenses, a bail enhancement of $500,000 was requested and approved by a Sonoma County Superior Court judge.

A Sobering Reminder

This incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving, especially in spaces where families and children gather. The DUI crash near Santa Rosa Soccer Park serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to DUI laws and probation terms to prevent tragedies like this.
