The Bakersfield Police Department responded to a collision on October 5, 2023, around 10:02 a.m., at the intersection of Union and California Avenues.
According to the preliminary investigation by Bakersfield police, a speeding van was heading north on Union Avenue when it failed to stop at a red light and collided with a garbage truck. This violent collision caused the garbage truck to overturn and hit two other vehicles in the area.
Authorities highlight that excessive speed and possible intoxication are considered suspicious factors contributing to this fatal collision on Union Avenue.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene, but the van’s driver, identified as a male, was pronounced dead at the accident site. Fortunately, the garbage truck driver and the drivers of the other two vehicles involved got out of the accident without injuries.
