In a tragic traffic accident that occurred over the Labor Day weekend, at least one fatality has been reported, and the driver of a commercial truck is facing serious charges of second-degree homicide and aggravated assault.
Karan Singh allegedly was driving a commercial truck northbound on California Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when he collided with three vehicles waiting at a traffic light at the intersection of California Avenue and Riverside Drive.
Following the initial collision, all vehicles proceeded through the intersection and ended up in the Terrible Herbst gas station parking lot. The commercial vehicle and one of the cars crashed violently into the building, causing a fierce fire. Another vehicle struck a rock before overturning on its roof in the parking lot.
Additionally, a fifth vehicle, which was in the southbound left-turn lane, was also struck by the commercial truck.
Parker Police Chief Mike Bailey confirmed that there was at least one fatality in the accident, along with multiple people severely injured. Preliminary reports indicate that two of the most severely injured individuals were airlifted to Phoenix hospitals in critical condition. The names of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
Karan Singh fled the accident scene and was subsequently found at a nearby Mexican restaurant. After being taken to La Paz Regional Hospital for evaluation, he was arrested and later taken to La Paz County Jail, where he faces charges of second-degree homicide and eight counts of aggravated assault. Bailey noted that intoxication is suspected to have been a contributing factor in the accident.
