SAN BENITO COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) from Hollister-Gilroy has confirmed the tragic death of one person following a car accident between two vehicles in San Benito County early Wednesday morning.
At around 3:55 a.m., officers responded to a head-on collision that occurred on Shore Road, just east of Lake Road. During the initial investigation, it was discovered that a 20-year-old man was driving east in his Toyota Camry at an undetermined speed. Simultaneously, Delbert Perry, 67, was heading west on the same road at approximately 55 miles per hour.
The fatal accident happened when the 20-year-old driver crossed the double yellow lines, entering the opposite lane and colliding head-on with Perry’s vehicle. Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene to attend to the injuries of both drivers.
The 20-year-old man was initially taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital with the intention of later transferring him to Natividad Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Delbert Perry was transported to Natividad Hospital with minor injuries.
According to authorities, drugs or alcohol are not suspected to have been contributing factors in the accident. The investigation is ongoing to determine all details and causes of the tragic incident.
