A Community Mourns Another Loss
The Rohnert Park and Sonoma County region has seen a recent increase in motorcycle accidents, many involving young riders and workers commuting along Highway 101.
Each tragedy leaves behind more than just a victim — families are left devastated, friends are in mourning, and communities are left searching for answers.
Legal Rights for the Victim’s Family
While the causes of the crash remain under investigation, California law protects families who lose loved ones in traffic collisions.
Under the Code of Civil Procedure §§ 377.60–377.61, immediate family members may file a wrongful death claim, a legal action that seeks justice and compensation for their loss.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, claims may be filed against:
- The vehicle’s driver, if negligence or lack of caution is determined.
- The vehicle’s owner, if different from the driver.
- Manufacturers or repair shops, if a technical failure in either car contributed to the crash.
- Road authorities, if unsafe pavement or inadequate signage played a role.
Families may seek compensation for:
- Funeral and emergency medical expenses.
- Loss of future income and financial support.
- Emotional suffering and loss of love, companionship, and guidance.
