Negligent driving remains a major concern, with a significant increase in July 4th accidents. The freedom we celebrate on this date often translates into reckless behaviors that endanger lives, both of drivers themselves and others on the road.
During last year’s July 4th weekend in 2023, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) implemented a Maximum Enforcement Period. During this time, 68 people died in traffic accidents, and nearly half of the victims were not wearing seat belts. Additionally, over 1,200 DUI arrests were made, highlighting the prevalence of this danger.
To enjoy a safe celebration this July 4th, authorities recommend planning ahead, always wearing seat belts, avoiding distractions while driving, refraining from drinking if driving, and respecting speed limits.
