Teen Identified as Victim in Stolen Car Crash in Richmond

Richmond, CA – A tragic stolen car crash in Richmond early Monday morning claimed the life of 16-year-old Stephanie Anahi and critically injured her 11-year-old sister. The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Canal Boulevard when the stolen Infiniti G35 they were riding in struck two trees and a pole, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Stephanie, a student at Richmond High School, was ejected from the car and died at the scene. Her younger sister, a student at Ford Elementary, was transported to the hospital and remains in intensive care. According to their aunt, the girls had recently emigrated from El Salvador.

Two 15-year-old boys were also in the car, but both fled the scene after the crash. The boys later gave police conflicting statements about who was driving at the time of the accident. One of the boys was found seeking treatment at a local hospital, while the other was located at a Richmond home later that evening.

Police are working to determine who was behind the wheel, as the driver could face serious charges, including manslaughter and possession of a stolen vehicle. The Infiniti had been reported stolen to the San Pablo Police Department just days earlier, on October 12.
