17-Year-Old Teen Killed in Head-On Motorcycle and Pickup Truck Crash in Fresno County

Fresno County, CA – December 2025 | Ayuda California News

A fatal motorcycle crash in Fresno claimed the life of a 17-year-old teen Friday afternoon following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Auberry Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Details

According to preliminary reports, the crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Auberry Road, just south of the Fresno Rifle and Pistol Club.

CHP officials stated that:

  • Jayce Alonzo was riding a BMW S1000RR motorcycle southbound.
  • As he approached a sharp right-hand curve, the motorcycle crossed over the double solid center lines.
  • At the same time, a Ford F-350 pickup truck, driven by a 39-year-old man, was traveling northbound.
  • The two vehicles collided head-on, ejecting the teenage motorcyclist onto the roadway.

The motorcycle came to rest on the west shoulder, while the pickup truck stopped partially in the northbound lane and east shoulder.

Emergency Response and Death

Emergency crews responded immediately and attempted life-saving measures. However, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the teen was wearing a full-face helmet at the time of the crash.

Ongoing Investigation

CHP stated that alcohol and drugs are not suspected as factors. The investigation remains ongoing and will examine:

  • Speed
  • Roadway conditions
  • Curve design and visibility
  • Possible mechanical factors

Legal Rights and Considerations

Depending on the final findings, the victim’s family may have several legal options under California law:

Wrongful Death Claim

Code of Civil Procedure §§ 377.60–377.61

May include compensation for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Loss of future financial support
  • Loss of companionship, love, and guidance
  • Emotional damages suffered by parents or guardians

Survival Action

Code of Civil Procedure § 377.30

If evidence shows the teen:

  • Was conscious, or
  • Experienced pain or distress before death

The family may recover damages the victim could have claimed, such as:

  • Pre-death medical expenses
  • Economic losses incurred before passing

Dangerous Roadway Conditions

Government Code § 835

If Auberry Road involved:

  • Poorly marked dangerous curves
  • Inadequate barriers or maintenance
  • Defective roadway design

Liability may extend to:

  • Fresno County
  • The State of California
  • The agency responsible for road maintenance

(This is particularly relevant on rural roads like Auberry Road.)

Civil Liability of the Surviving Driver

Even without DUI involvement, civil liability may exist for:

  • Speeding
  • Failure to maintain lane control
  • Failure to take evasive action

The absence of alcohol or drugs does not eliminate civil responsibility.

Comparative Negligence

Li v. Yellow Cab Co. (1975)

  • Helmet use reduces injuries but does not eliminate legal rights
  • Even if the motorcyclist shared partial fault, the family does not lose the right to compensation
  • Any recovery is reduced only by the percentage of fault assigned

Insurance Coverage

Families may pursue compensation through:

  • The surviving driver’s auto insurance
  • The vehicle owner’s policy
  • UM/UIM coverage (uninsured/underinsured motorist), if applicable
  • Other available insurance policies, depending on the facts
