A new Toyota Camry recall affects more than 508,000 model-year 2025 and 2026 vehicles in the United States because an instrument cluster display may fail when the vehicle starts.
Toyota has confirmed that the broader campaign involves approximately 655,000 Camry vehicles worldwide.
What Is Wrong With the Toyota Camry?
The recall covers specific 2025-2026 Toyota Camry Hybrid vehicles equipped with a 7-inch instrument cluster display.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the display may become blank during startup. The failure can deactivate functions including hazard lights, turn signals, the seat belt warning system, and the smart-key reminder.
Toyota has reported that:
- Approximately 508,354 U.S. vehicles are affected
- Dealers will update the display software free of charge
- Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning September 21, 2026
- Toyota’s recall numbers are 26TB16 and 26TA16
- The NHTSA campaign number is 26V511
Owners can also check their vehicle identification number through NHTSA’s official recall lookup to determine whether their Camry is included.
What Does California Law Say About Unsafe Vehicles?
California Vehicle Code Section 24002 makes it unlawful to operate a vehicle that is in an unsafe condition and presents an immediate safety hazard.
