Bakersfield, California – A woman from Bakersfield tragically lost her life in a horrific traffic accident on Wednesday night in Oildale. Authorities reported the tragic incident on Thursday, revealing the shocking details of what transpired.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim was identified as Christina Rubio, 53, by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
The official report indicates that the vehicle, a 2002 Ford, collided with a concrete curb and overturned. CHP signage suggests that the victim’s failure to use a seatbelt may have been a contributing factor to the tragedy.
The driver, Benjamin Mendez, 39, managed to survive the accident with minor injuries. Fortunately, Mendez was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the impact.
According to the CHP investigation, the vehicle was heading south on Sequoia Drive. During an imprudent turn east onto Roberts Lane, the car’s tire struck a curb, leading to the loss of control of the vehicle and ultimately the tragic accident.
It is emphasized that, according to the initial investigation, alcohol and drug consumption played no role in the unfortunate incident. The coroner’s office confirmed that Rubio passed away at the scene of the accident on Roberts, just east of Sequoia, at 9:30 p.m.
