Bonsall, California – A severe multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 15 in Bonsall, California, resulted in one fatality and the arrest of two drivers. The incident, which occurred around 11:40 p.m. near Old Highway 395, involved five vehicles, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision sequence began when a Chevrolet Colorado, traveling in lane number 2, rear-ended a Nissan Titan. This initial crash left the Chevrolet disabled in the southbound lanes.
The sequence of the collision is as follows:
- Initial Impact: The Chevrolet Colorado collides with the Nissan Titan.
- Second Impact: A Volkswagen Tiguan crashes into the immobilized Chevrolet.
- Third Impact: A Toyota Camry strikes the rear of the Volkswagen.
- Fourth Impact: A Kia Soul grazes the front left side of the Chevrolet.
A passenger in the Toyota Camry, a 32-year-old woman from Compton, died at the scene. The driver of the Camry, a 32-year-old man from Perris, was transported to the hospital with severe and potentially life-threatening injuries. Fortunately, the other injuries related to the accident were considered non-life-threatening, according to the CHP.
The police arrested the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Mark Anthony Bengal, 26, of Chula Vista, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, the driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Phillip Mattson, was also detained on suspicion of DUI.
