Two Men Lose Their Lives in Pedestrian Accidents in Oxnard

Oxnard, California – Two men lost their lives in tragic pedestrian accidents in Oxnard, both occurring separately on different streets in the city.

A 52-year-old man was standing in a southbound traffic lane on Highway 101 north of Seaward Avenue in Ventura. Dressed in dark clothing, his life was abruptly cut short.

Around 10 p.m., a 2019 Ford Ranger, traveling at a speed of 65-70 mph in the same direction, collided with the man. Unfortunately, after his fall, two additional vehicles also struck him before emergency teams arrived. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim, identified as Matthew Hornsleth, possibly a homeless individual, succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries. The Ventura County Coroner’s Office concluded that it was an accident.

The Ford Ranger driver, a 25-year-old from Camarillo, remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A Second Tragedy

Shortly before 11 p.m., another man, 40-year-old Marco Vazquez Solano, of unknown residence, lost his life in a pedestrian accident in Oxnard. The Oxnard Police Department reported that Solano was hit while attempting to cross the street near the intersections of Hueneme and Perkins.

The Coroner’s Office concluded that Marco Vazquez Solano died from multiple blunt force injuries, determining the incident was an accident.

After the impact, the vehicle driver fled the scene. Oxnard Police are continuing the investigation and urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Traffic Investigator Alexis Arellano at 805-200-5668 or alexis.arellano@oxnardpd.org.
