Richmond, CA – A heartbreaking stolen car crash in Richmond early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl and critically injured her 11-year-old sister. According to the Richmond Police Department, the crash occurred on Canal Street around 5:17 a.m. when the stolen Infiniti G35 they were in veered off the road and struck two trees and a pole.
Police confirmed that two 15-year-old boys were also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the San Pablo Police Department on October 12. Initial investigations indicate that speeding may have been a factor in the crash.
The 14-year-old girl was tragically ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Her younger sister was rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Following the crash, the two boys fled the scene. One was found seeking medical treatment at a nearby hospital, while the other was at a Richmond residence later in the evening. At this time, it remains unclear who was driving the stolen car, as those involved have made conflicting statements.
Richmond Police have not yet released the identity of the young girl who was killed but expressed their condolences in a statement: “We are saddened by this senseless tragedy that has resulted in the loss of such a young life. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and the remaining victim who remains hospitalized.”
