South Los Angeles, CA – October 12, 2025 | Ayuda California News

Three people were arrested Friday night following a crash in South L.A., after a vehicle slammed into another car at an intersection and then crashed into a parked minivan in front of a 7-Eleven, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

Incident Details

The collision occurred around 11:00 p.m., after sheriff’s deputies began pursuing a speeding vehicle through the South Gate area before it entered the Florence neighborhood.

According to preliminary reports:

  • The driver ran a red light at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Alameda Street.
  • The car was struck by another vehicle that had the right of way, causing it to spin out of control.
  • The suspect’s vehicle jumped the curb and crashed into a parked minivan in front of a 7-Eleven.
  • Three occupants fled on foot but were arrested minutes later.

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle was linked to a “street takeover,” an illegal event involving street racing or blocked intersections.

As of now, officials have not confirmed whether anyone was injured.

The Growing Danger of “Street Takeovers”

These events—also known as illegal street takeovers—have become increasingly common across Southern California. They involve dangerous stunts, spontaneous races, and confrontations with law enforcement, putting innocent drivers, pedestrians, and entire families at risk.

According to Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) data, street takeovers have tripled since 2020, with many resulting in fatalities, serious injuries, or property damage.

Rights of Victims and Vehicle Owners

In cases like this, where a vehicle is damaged or destroyed by drivers engaging in illegal activities, victims and property owners have legal rights under California law:

Victims may pursue compensation for:

  •  Vehicle repair or replacement
  •  Lost income, if the vehicle was used for work
  •  Emotional and psychological distress, especially if children or family members were present
⚖️ Punitive damages, if the at-fault party acted recklessly or illegally (e.g., participating in a street takeover), under Civil Code §3294. Courts may grant additional compensation to punish dangerous conduct and deter future offenses.
