Kern County Coroner Names Victim of VDay DUI Crash in Bakersfield

[Bakersfield, CA] The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal DUI collision that occurred in Bakersfield on Valentine’s Day. Juana Torres de Calderon, 53, was tragically killed in the crash that occurred just before 4 a.m. on February 14th on the highway, just north of Famoso Road.

William Pederson, 53, was arrested following the incident. According to investigators, Pederson was driving his gray Ram truck north on the highway when he crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane, colliding with the car occupied by Torres de Calderon and her passenger, Lucy Martinez, 50, both residents of Bakersfield.

Sadly, Torres de Calderon sustained fatal injuries from the DUI crash in Bakersfield, while Martinez sustained unspecified injuries. Pederson was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and faces several charges, including second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and two driving under the influence charges.
