Two Children Die in Crash During Police Pursuit in Mountain View

Santa Clara County, California – Two children lost their lives, while their mother and a friend suffered severe injuries in a crash during a police pursuit in Mountain View. Authorities reported that the tragic incident unfolded around 6:14 p.m. at the intersection of 32nd Street and Ocean View Boulevard in Logan Heights.

The suspect, 20-year-old Angel Daniel Salgado Velásquez, led officers on an intense pursuit that unfolded on Interstate 805 southbound. The situation reached a critical point when Salgado Velásquez exited the highway in his BMW at the Street 43 off-ramp, as per information provided by the police.

Around 6:19 p.m., the BMW violently collided with a Honda sedan, causing the latter to crash into a tree on an embankment and catch fire, detailed Officer Salvador Castro in a press conference on Friday.

Two innocent children, aged four and eight, who were traveling in the Honda, were urgently transported to the hospital, but sadly, both lost their lives, confirmed the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The mother of the children, a 25-year-old woman, and her 29-year-old friend were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Salgado Velásquez, the sole occupant of the BMW, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. However, authorities managed to apprehend him later.

Officials urge anyone who witnessed this tragic accident to contact the San Diego Area Office of the CHP at 858-293-6000.
