(Bakersfield, CA) A car accident on Kern River Canyon on Highway 178 left two occupants trapped in a crushed vehicle. The Kern County Fire Department was able to rescue them.
The accident occurred on Friday around 1:40 a.m. when the Kern County Fire Department received an automatic vehicle notification on Highway 178 east of Boreal Road. Both the California Highway Patrol and the Fire Department went in search of the vehicle.
Upon arriving at the accident scene, firefighters heard screams from the bottom of the canyon and found the vehicle about 300 feet below the road. Authorities were able to rescue both occupants who were trapped in the vehicle.
The occupants were conscious and complained of severe pain. A helicopter was able to lower and transport them to the nearest hospital for treatment.
The cause of the accident is currently unknown. We hope for a speedy recovery for the victims of the car accident near Lake Isabella.
