[Colusa, CA] – On Monday, a devastating head-on collision on State Route 20 in Sutter brought the untimely deaths of a 25-year-old Colusa woman and her 16-month-old baby. Additionally, an adolescent passenger was injured during this deadly crash. Francisco Jauregui is currently suspected to be the driver of the other vehicle involved in this tragic accident and has been taken into custody by law enforcement while they conduct their investigation for driving under the influence.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the eastbound 2021 Chevrolet 3500 driven by Jauregui had a blood alcohol level that was 2.5 times higher than what is legally allowed at the time of their crash on State Route 20. The vehicle veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by an individual from Colusa County.
Unfortunately, the woman and her child were beyond saving due to their injuries. Although, a 15-year-old boy was taken to Rideout Regional Medical Center with extreme trauma. Jauregui tried desperately to flee but was immediately nabbed by law enforcement officials after the tragic incident.
Jauregui has been apprehended and is facing serious legal repercussions, including charges associated with driving while intoxicated causing injury or death, two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, attempting to escape a crash resulting in bodily harm coupled with fleeing the justice scene as well as putting children’s safety at risk due to his recklessness.
