Crash Involving Semi-Truck and Six Vehicles on I-680

Fremont, California – On Thursday, July 18, the city of Fremont was the site of a tragic accident involving six vehicles, including a semi-truck carrying approximately 10,000 pounds of meat.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that one person lost his life in this incident, though specific details about other potential victims or injuries have yet to be confirmed.

The accident occurred around 7:05 a.m. on the southbound Interstate 680 (I-680) just north of the Mission Boulevard exit. According to the CHP, the truck transporting meat weighed between 35,000 and 40,000 pounds.

The truck lost control for reasons still under investigation and ended up about 20 feet off the road, down an embankment. This complicated the rescue and cleanup operations, making them even more challenging.

The aftermath of the accident blocked all southbound lanes of I-680 except the express lane. The CHP issued a Sig Alert due to severe traffic and could not provide an estimate for when the affected lanes would reopen.

A special tow truck for large vehicles was requested to remove the crashed truck. To mitigate traffic impact, the CHP opened the express lane to all traffic, allowing for some decongestion of the affected area.

This semi-truck crash on I-680 highlights the importance of road safety and the authorities’ swift response. While the investigation continues to determine the causes of the incident, drivers should remain cautious at all times to prevent future accidents.
