Fatal Crash in Fresno County Leaves Two Sisters Dead
Fresno, CA – October 30, 2025 | Ayuda California News
Two sisters were killed and a man was critically injured in a fatal crash in Fresno County on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. near the intersection of Belmont and Brawley Avenue, west of Fresno. According to the preliminary report, 21-year-old Angelina Niño was driving at a high rate of speed when she failed to stop at a stop sign on Brawley Avenue. The vehicle continued off the roadway, striking a power pole, several trees, a fence, and a parked vehicle before coming to rest in a truck yard.
Niño was pronounced dead at the scene, while her sister, 14-year-old Rayla Piedra, a student at Justin Garza High School, was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries. A third passenger, a 27-year-old man, sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized.
Authorities stated that the driver and front-seat passenger were wearing seatbelts, but the rear passenger was not. Alcohol and drug use remain under investigation.
A Troubling Trend in the Central Valley
Fresno County continues to record one of the highest rates of fatal crashes involving young drivers in California.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), between 2020 and 2024, crashes involving speeding and loss of control increased by 24%, and over 35% of single-vehicle fatalities involved victims under the age of 25.
Traffic safety experts warn that the combination of speed, distraction, and poorly lit rural roads remains a deadly formula across agricultural areas in western Fresno County.
Local organizations such as Safe Streets Fresno and CHIRLA have called for stronger driver education programs for teens and increased highway patrol presence on rural routes where these late-night crashes often occur.
Legal Rights for the Victims’ Families
The families of Angelina and Rayla may pursue civil compensation under California Code of Civil Procedure §§377.60–377.61 through a wrongful death claim, which can cover:
- Funeral and emergency medical expenses
- Loss of income and future financial support
- Emotional suffering and loss of companionship
- Property damage related to the crash
Suppose the investigation determines that mechanical defects or road hazards contributed to the crash. In that case, additional claims may be filed for product liability or municipal negligence, pursuant to Civil Code § 1714 and Government Code § 835.
