- The vehicle crossed over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic
- It collided head-on with a white Ford pickup truck
Authorities reported that:
- The Mustang driver was not wearing a seatbelt

The investigation remains ongoing, and it has not yet been confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were factors.
Head-On Crashes and Ejection: A Deadly Combination
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes due to the direct force of impact.
Vehicle ejection significantly increases the risk of death.
In California, seatbelt use is required under Vehicle Code § 27315, and wearing one can be the difference between life and death in these crashes.
Legal Perspective: Liability and Key Factors
In these types of collisions, authorities typically analyze:
Traffic Violations
- Improper lane crossing (double yellow line)
- Unsafe speed (CVC § 22350)
Aggravating Factors
- Failure to wear a seatbelt
- Possible reckless driving (CVC § 23103)
California follows a pure comparative negligence system, meaning that even if one party contributed to the crash, other parties may still share partial responsibility.
Rights of Victims
In this case, the surviving driver may be entitled to compensation for:
✔️ Medical expenses
✔️ Rehabilitation
✔️ Lost income
✔️ Pain and suffering
Depending on the investigation, additional liability beyond the deceased driver may also be considered.
