A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian in Oildale on Wednesday night, as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The fatal collision occurred at 10:39 p.m. on James Road, just east of North Chester Avenue Extension.
According to CHP officers, a 59-year-old woman from Bakersfield was walking within the westbound lanes on James Road, east of North Chester Avenue Extension. The suspect was driving an unknown vehicle, traveling westbound on James Road when the vehicle hit the pedestrian.
The woman sustained major injuries and was declared dead at the scene, with her identity to be released later, according to officials.
The make and model of the vehicle is unknown, and the suspect fled the scene. The CHP is investigating the use of drugs or alcohol as a factor in the Oildale hit-and-run accident, and no further information has been released at this time.
