Honda Recall 2023: 500K Vehicles Recalled, Faulty Seatbelts

Honda is issuing a massive recall of nearly 500,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to an issue with their front seat belts.

The recall affects some of Honda’s most popular models including 2017 through 2020 CR-V models, 2018 and 2019 Accord models, 2018 through 2020 Odyssey vehicles and 2019 Insight cars, as well as Acura RDX vehicles from the 2019 and 2020 model years.

The issue comes from a surface coating on the channel of the buckle that can deteriorate over time. This causes the release button to shrink against the channel at lower temperatures, which creates friction and prevents the buckle from latching properly. This results in drivers or passengers not being restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

Honda has not reported any injuries related to the issue and will begin notifying owners by letter starting April 17th. Dealerships will replace the front seat belt buckle release buttons or the buckle assemblies if needed.

Owners are being urged to take action on the Honda recall immediately and have their vehicles repaired to ensure the safety of all passengers.
