Multi-Vehicle Crash in Downtown Bakersfield

Bakersfield, California – Police reported that a reckless driver triggered a multi-vehicle crash in downtown Bakersfield, resulting in at least one person injured on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

Emergency services were alerted to the intersection of California and Chester Avenues shortly after 10:30 a.m. According to a police spokesperson, operators received reports of a reckless driver in the area just before the accident.

According to the police department, the driver of a Chevrolet truck ran a red light, leading to a collision with three other vehicles at the intersection.

Images from the scene showed the damage to the vehicles involved after the impact. Several people were seen trying to assist the driver of one of the affected vehicles. The Chevrolet truck came to a stop at the southeast corner of the intersection.

One person was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries due to the accident. The driver of the Chevrolet truck was detained and subjected to evaluation for possible driving under the influence of alcohol.
