(Los Angeles, CA) A rollover accident on the southbound freeway in Los Angeles claimed the lives of two women, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported early Thursday morning at 1:40 a.m. near the Slauson exit, where the vehicle was found on its side. The CHP reported that the four-door Nissan sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the accident, veered off the freeway and crashed into an embankment before striking a tree and rolling down.
One of the two passengers in the vehicle was ejected from the car and was struck by another car traveling southbound. The driver of the car stopped at the time of impact and reported the accident to 911. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic was blocked along the freeway while officers attempted to clear the debris and complete the investigation. The lanes were reopened around 6:30 a.m.
The names of the victims have not been released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing, waiting to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims.
