[San Diego, CA] On Wednesday, Mira Mesa residents were evacuated after a vehicle collided with a gas pipeline, causing a major gas main break. The crash occurred around 3:18 pm on Gold Coast Drive and Black Mountain Road.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital, with their status currently unknown. As a result, 20 units in an apartment building near the crash were evacuated and numerous other residents have been told to leave their homes. Residents will be allowed to go to Miramar College as an alternative.
San Diego Gas & Electric is attempting to “pinch” the gas line, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. This will help prevent further damage and potential disaster. However, it is unlikely that all residents will be allowed back into their homes until the situation has been cleared up by authorities.
This is a developing story, and it will be updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, all residents in the Mira Mesa area are advised to follow all instructions given by authorities until further notice. The safety of citizens should always be considered a priority.
