Fresno, California – A violent accident on Highway 180, west of Kerman, resulted in the tragic death of a driver. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the incident, which involved three vehicles last Sunday.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 180 and Sonoma Avenue. According to Mike Salas, a CHP spokesperson, a westbound Chevrolet sedan veered to the left, sideswiping a Ford Mustang before colliding head-on with a Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 47-year-old man from Antioch, was ejected from the vehicle, which then caught fire. Salas indicated that the man was not wearing a seatbelt. He was airlifted by the CHP helicopter to the Community Regional Medical Center, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The other drivers, a 40-year-old man from Mendota and a 44-year-old woman from Bakersfield were transported to the hospital with severe injuries. Despite the severity of their injuries, both are expected to survive.
The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs may have been contributing factors in the collision.
This tragic incident highlights the importance of road safety measures, such as wearing seatbelts. The CHP continues to emphasize the need for cautious driving and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future.
