According to a statement from the Bakersfield Police Department, the Honda failed to stop at a dead-end and entered the freeway traveling eastbound before being hit by the Dodge pickup in the southbound lane.
The Honda caught fire upon impact, and two passengers, an adult male, and a 15-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries but managed to escape the burning vehicle.
