Tragic Bakersfield Car Crash Claims Two Lives

Two people died in a fatal car crash on Highway 99 in Bakersfield early Saturday morning. The collision involved a Honda passenger car and a Dodge pickup truck in the southbound lanes of the freeway near Hosking Avenue.

According to a statement from the Bakersfield Police Department, the Honda failed to stop at a dead-end and entered the freeway traveling eastbound before being hit by the Dodge pickup in the southbound lane.

The Honda caught fire upon impact, and two passengers, an adult male, and a 15-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda sustained serious injuries but managed to escape the burning vehicle.

Highway 99 was closed to southbound traffic for several hours but has since reopened. The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the deceased from this Bakersfield car crash at a later time.
