Woman Dies in Fresno Pedestrian Accident

(Fresno, CA) A woman died after being struck by a truck driven by an off-duty Clovis police officer in Fresno County. Authorities report that the accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Clinton Bethel Road north of Sanger.

Investigators indicate that the woman, later identified as 51-year-old Ana Ortega from Sanger, was walking her dog before the accident. As Ortega was heading west on the asphalt shoulder of the road, she was hit by a 45-year-old officer driving in the opposite direction.

At the time of the accident, the officer stopped and attempted to revive the victim until authorities arrived. The victim’s dog suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, but Ortega was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Authorities reported that high speed was ruled out as a possible factor in the accident, and the investigation is still ongoing.

The Fresno pedestrian accident is a reminder of how important it is to stay alert when walking on the road, as well as the responsibility of drivers to follow traffic rules and keep themselves and others safe while driving.
