Head-On Collisions: A Growing Risk in Northern California

Placer County has seen an increase in severe collisions on suburban roads like Eureka Road, where:

  • Speed limits are relatively high
  • Long stretches lack center dividers
  • Morning traffic often leads to risky maneuvers and unsafe passing

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), head-on collisions account for about 27% of all fatal crashes on local and suburban roads statewide — particularly in mixed residential and commercial areas.

Legal Rights for Victims and Families After a Fatal Head-On Crash

In a case like this, families may be entitled to file a Wrongful Death Claim under California Code of Civil Procedure §377.60 – §377.61 if the investigation finds negligence by any driver involved.

Recoverable damages can include:

  • Funeral and emergency medical expenses
  • Loss of future income and financial support
  • Emotional distress and loss of companionship

If reckless driving, speeding, or distraction is confirmed, families may also seek punitive damages under Civil Code §3294 for grossly negligent conduct.

The injured driver may additionally file a Personal Injury Claim to recover:

  • Lost wages
  • Present and future medical expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Vehicle and property damage
