(Bakersfield, CA) A man was arrested early Monday morning after a police chase that led the driver to crash into a light pole. The suspect allegedly ignored orders to pull over by authorities.
According to reports from the Bakersfield Police Department, the chase started around 12:23 a.m. when officers attempted to stop the driver on suspicion of auto theft in the New Stine and Wilson Roads area.
The vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man, later identified as Matthew Difalco from Bakersfield, failed to yield to police officers, leading to the attempted stop and then a police chase in Bakersfield, which ended approximately 20 minutes later when a tire-deflation device was successfully deployed.
Difalco crashed the car into a light pole in the area of 24th Street and Chester Avenue, got out of the vehicle, and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended with the use of force by police officers.
Drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm were found and seized. Difalco was arrested for possession of drugs and firearms, possession of stolen property, and felony drug offenses, among others.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information about the accused to come forward and assist in the investigation of crimes that can lead to a fair sentence for his criminal acts.
